Ronnie Gavilán Chávez
Ronnie Gavilan is a Research Biologist at National Institute of Health - Peru. He starts his research career in the PhD Program at University of Santiago de Compostela, Spain and continue with a Postdoctoral Fellow at Smithsonian Tropical Research Institute Panama. He joined to National Institute of Health - Peru in 2014 as chief of the National Reference Laboratory of Enteropathogens including activities as outbreak studies, characterization and molecular subtyping of bacterial pathogens, implementation and validation of new diagnostic technologies and coordination of national and international projects on integrated surveillance of foodborne diseases with molecular techniques. He is currently the Executive Director of Transmissible Diseases at National Center for Public Health, NIH-Peru and is in charge of National Reference Laboratories. His research line and academic interest include development of molecular diagnostic test, microbial genomics and molecular epidemiology of bacterial and emerging pathogens with relevance in public health.
