Dr. Isao HAMAGUCHI is a Director of Safety Research on Blood and Biological Products Department, National Institute of Infectious Diseases (NIID) in Tokyo. NIID has two functions as national control laboratories for biological products and national reference laboratory for infectious diseases. He contributes to Lot release of vaccines and plasma derived products as well as quality control of IVD regarding infections diseases. His main interest is transfusion-transmitted diseases, especially, Human T cell leukemia virus-1 (HTLV-1). He has standardized NAT assay for HTLV-1 using a reference material, and recently developed a diagnostic guideline for HTLV-1 infection.
